Modern-loft house plan with a budget just over a million baht

“A house that is constructed with wood planks, a classic home style that has been with Thai culture ever since, is adaptable in every generation. Nowadays, the modern style is becoming more in trend in house designs. How can we combine the classy wood with modernism? Find out how in this article”

This house plan was initially developed from an idea and built into a real house in Nakhon Ratchasima province. The house was designed and constructed by K.Neab @khunpipat korsang, who renovated an old wooden house to become a spacious and modern loft-style house made from wood planks instead.

The house itself was designed to use a variety of materials including SCG Smartwood Planks, SCG Smartwood Planks, Bare Cement, as well as steel. The roofing level and the use of long horizontal glass was designed to add modernity to the house. All the elements therefore made the house look unique.

The star of this house are surely the SCG Smartwood Planks which are framed around the 2nd floor of the house. The wooden planks go well together with the bare plaster walls of the lower floor, showing a pattern like real wood. It is durable, sun-resistant, rain resistant, safe from termites, and has a beautiful color like natural wood.

The interior of the house is designed to mainly show simplicity; Using bare, polished plaster walls around the house, using real wood stairs to make the interior more distinguishing, designing the interior with a loft-style mixed with steel, as well as using bare brick walls and lamp decorations at the top ceiling to modernize the house, both inside and outside.

The construction budget from renovating the old wooden house gained a new spacious area of 158 sq.m. which has 1 downstairs bedroom / 1 kitchen / 1 living room / 3 upstairs bedroom and an upper balcony to get some fresh air. The overall budget is 1 million baht. It is worth every square meter of happiness in the house.

Remark: The construction budget of each house depends on many factors whether the construction area, quality of materials, hiring the contractor, etc. Therefore, the example of this house is only as an idea and should not be used as a standard for building other houses which might have different factors.

P’Tia and P’Kwan, the home owners, state that

“We liked the house from first sight. When the house was finished, people complimented that the house was beautiful and unique. This house has been built for over a year but it still looks good as new. It’s beautiful, resistant and we didn’t make the wrong choice in choosing quality materials like SCG Smartwood”
